CCTV is a Valuable Investment

CCTV provides safety and peace of mind. It is one of the best investments that you could possibly make when it comes to ensuring that your property and the people who spend time in it are safe. It can offer a visual deterrent to would-be intruders, and it can help to ensure that your property is not an appealing prospect for criminals. We can offer these systems to buyers in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

The Choice: Analogue or Digital

The days of analogue CCTV products are coming to an end. Digital cameras are far superior now in a lot of ways, and now it is well worth considering the benefits and downsides of analogue vs digital. Should you chose an NVR (Network Video Recorder), all-digital setup, or a DVR (the 'Digital Video Camera', which, ironically, is the analogue version!)

DRV vs NVR Recording stations

Your CCTV system will be managed through a recording network which is fairly similar to your home computer network. Once it is installed, your camera will send a certain amount of data and information through the cables. Analogue uses the RG59 Coax, which is similar to your TV antenna cable. The digital system will use a computer network cable or possibly a wireless connection to send data to the recording station. There are a number of variables which will determine how much information is sent from each video camera. The recording station is limited by how much data it can receive or record.

The Maximum Resolution - The Key Variable!

The resolution that the camera can record at is measured in pixels and is listed as two numbers, one for vertical and one for horizontal pixels. Greater numbers mean more detailed images. Old-fashioned VGA is 640x480. An image of at least 1280x960 is a good goal, with higher than that being even better because it will allow you to see finer details or to record over a bigger area.

Standard Resolutions for Digital Recording

Camera resolutions for IP cameras can vary massively. The following is a list of some of the standard resolutions that you might encounter.

Digital cameras rely on megapixel (MP) technology, and that is something you will most likely have seen a lot in other cameras and your phone over the last several years. Instead of using TVL measurement, and IP camera will present its image quality in the megapixel format. The majority of the cameras you will find on the market today are either 1.3, 2, 3 or 5MP. You can get some that are higher quality but the bandwidth and storage required for that are so great it is not commonly used yet.

TVL

The TVL, or 'television line' is the number that is used to describe the quality of an analogue camera. CCTV cameras can have a resolution that is as low as 420TVL, although more modern ones are 600 to 700 TVL. The higher the number the better the quality of the image will be. Pay close attention to this when you are choosing a camera.

We offer analogue cameras with a minimum spec of 700TVL, so that you can be confident that you will get a high-quality image out of the recording. Some of the cheaper brands on the market still sell 420TBL cameras, but a person's face would be hard to see clearly on a recording even if it was taken at a five-meter range, and we do not want to sell something that is not going to be useful to our customers.

Economy Solutions

There are a number of local stores which offer cheap camera packages for CCTV. These 'economy' 4 camera solutions are not always what they seem. The kits sometimes don't even tell you what resolution the cameras are, and the chipsets are poor with bad colour and with poor or no night vision feature.

We sell a '4 Camera' box kit, but with a 700TVL quality set of cameras which have been tested to ensure they have clear colour and good night vision. This helps to ensure that you do not end up with a bad image which is of no use to the police. This is something that is all too common with cheaper kits.

We place the utmost importance on the reliability and quality of DVRs because these devices will need to work hard recording images of your property day in, day out. At iCam, we make sure that you get good cameras, good DVRs and reliable and secure installation. We provide CCTV cameras and installation services across the Gold Coast, Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and SE QLD.
